Viet pastor arrested, bible school destroyed
Police in Saigon City arrested Mennonite Pastor Nguyen Hong Quang Monday minutes before his home and bible school were demolished by authorities.

Pastor Quang is a human rights lawyer and chairman of the Legal Committee of the Vietnam Evangelical Fellowship, CBN reports.

He's been jailed three times and was last imprisoned in 2004 along with five other church leaders. They were known as the "Mennonite Six". Quang at that time was accused of practicing non-sanctioned religion and operating an unatuhorized bible school.

Several witnesses say this time - just prior to arrest - Quang was beaten with police batons until he fainted. 20 bible school students - mostly hill tribe Christians were also arrested and interrogated. They were escorted back to their homes in the Central Highlands.

According to The Voice of the Martyrs Australia, "There was great chaos when the bulldozers came to demolish the church building. People scattered everywhere. Members of the Civil Defense and Night Watchman were seen watching over the demolition."

Apparently Quang's home and bible school were among many homes and businesses standing in the way of a government commercial development. The Mennonites say they've owned the land since 1996, CBN notes.
